Ceramic Tint Is Worth it!

Whether you’re driving, at home gazing out at your garden, or sitting by a window at work, you actually may be suffering continual skin damage. While everyday windows block most of the sun’s ultraviolet B (UVB) rays, they allow much of its ultraviolet A (UVA) rays to pass right through. UVA penetrates deep into the skin, causing DNA damage that can accelerate skin aging and lead to skin cancer. If you frequently sit by windows, the single best safeguard against UV damage is transparent window film, sometimes referred to as window tint, which has been specially treated to screen out both UVA and UVB rays. Installing protective film on your windows will keep you virtually UV-free on the road, at home, or at the office.

Drivers in the US have more skin cancers on the left side of their faces: drivers in Australia have more skin cancers on the right.

CURING CAR TROUBLE

In cars, only the laminated windshield comes with both UVB and UVA protection. The side and back windows allow in more than 60 percent of UVA rays. Research has shown that UV damage is more extensive on the side of the body closer to the window; long-time drivers also have rougher, slacker, more wrinkled skin on their window side. Babies and young children — who have little protective skin pigment — often sit in back, where none of the glass (even darker glass found in SUVs and mini-vans) offers adequate UVA protection. Fortunately, UVA-filtering window film can go a long way to prevent skin damage. Combining UVA absorbers in varying strengths, the transparent films are available from clear to dark tints for vehicles’ side and back windows in all 50 states; it screens out more than 99 percent of UVA and UVB without reducing visibility.

UV-absorbing auto window film reduces skin cell death by 93 percent.

ALTERNATIVE MEASURES FOR SUN PROTECTION WHILE DRIVING

It’s wise to practice the following sun safety strategies every day:
 • Cover up with clothing. Long-sleeve shirts help prevent UV damage to the drivers’ window-side arm, and long pants protect your legs.
 • Use a broad spectrum (UVA/UVB) sunscreen with an SPF of 15 or higher. Don’t forget often-missed spots like the top of the head, neck, hands and ears.
• Take extra precautions in convertibles and cars with sunroofs. Wear a wide-brimmed hat and wraparound, UV-blocking sunglasses.

SAVE MONEY COOLING YOUR HOME THIS SUMMER WITH HOME WINDOW TINT

The warm Summer weather is something many of us look forward to all year long, but it also brings higher energy bills as we use our air conditioning to keep our home cooler and comfortable. With that in mind, we wanted to share some ways that home window tint can help save you on home energy costs this Summer season. This article discusses how window film can reduce the load on your air conditioning system which saves you money on utility bills and also HVAC system maintenance.
The first thing we want to explain is how home window films work to reduce the load on your air conditioning system. The simple explanation is that window film installed on your existing house windows reduces the amount of the sun’s heat coming into your home through the glass. On a hot Summer day, you air conditioning system might be struggling just to keep up with the demand to keep your home comfortable. Unfortunately, this demand for air conditioning is also happening all throughout your area at the same time. This spike in demand for energy allows the utility company to charge a premium on the energy you use during this period. Now, the good news. Home window film is very effective reducing the heat making its way into your home through the windows on those hot Summer days. By reducing the heat coming through the glass, your air conditioning will not having to work as hard, and use as much energy, to keep your home comfortable.
In addition, as a result of reducing the heat entering the home, the home’s air conditioning system will not need to run constantly to keep up with demand. This not only saves you money on energy costs as mentioned above, but will also save you system maintenance costs from wear and tear. The air conditioning unit consists of numerous components that each have an effective service life. The longer, and harder, a unit is forced to run, the faster these parts wear out and need replacing. Furthermore, as parts degrade they often do not work as efficiently as they did when new. The resulting system inefficiency translates into more energy being needed to get the same results in home cooling.

What do the different levels of film mean?

What do the different levels of film mean?

Film percentages stand for  (VLT)  Visible light transmission, or the amount of light that passes through the film. The lower the percentage, the darker the film. Ex.  5% means only  5% light will go through film hence blocking out 95% light.

How to care for your new window tint job of you car.

Your new window film will take upto 2 weeks to fully dry, sometimes a lot longer depending on film brand, type, and weather conditions. Until this time your tinted windows may appear hazy, and it may seem to have water bubbles. This is a normal drying process. Do not roll your tinted windows down for at least 3 to 5 days.

When cleaning a car’s tinted windows, make sure to use an ammonia-free cleaner, as ammonia will break down the polyester causing flaking and color changes. Do not clean windows with abrasive pads or cleaners; use a soft cloth, a clean synthetic sponge or micro fiber towels.

Caution should be used when releasing seat belts as small chips can be made in the window film due to the seat belt hitting the glass as it is released.

What is Florida law regarding car window tinting?

News 6 expert Steve Montiero answers viewer questions

By Daniel Dahm - Digital Manager, Steve Montiero - Traffic Anchor
ORLANDO, Fla. - When it comes to vehicles, equipment can differ from make and model. But we all have the standards: headlights, turn signals, brake lights, side-view mirrors, and they all have their specific functions.
Carl, of Winter Park, asked News 6 Traffic Safety Expert Steve Montiero, "Can I use my fog lights in substitute of my headlights?“
Montiero said fog lights are designed to be used in the fog or inclement weather. They are not to be used as a substitute for headlights.
Fog lights and headlights have two completely different functions, but only one of them can be used by themselves for the purpose of illuminating what's in front of you. Headlights are your No. 1 piece of equipment when it comes to dark driving,
"I would refer to fog lights as kind of a consolation prize," Montiero said. "To clarify the question just a little bit, if your intention is to use your lights because you cannot see in front of you, your headlights must be on and then you can also use your fog lights."
Fog lights are not to be used as the primary lighting device to see.

The IWFA Encourages Utility Companies to Help Customers Understand Window Film’s Benefits

The IWFA Encourages Utility Companies to Help Customers Understand Window Film’s Benefits

April 4th, 2018 by Editor
For utility companies in the business of selling power, demand can, on occasion, exceed capacity making operations inefficient. In response, the International Window Film Association (IWFA), is encouraging utilities to be aware of the energy savings benefits of professionally installed window film while educating their customers on the returns.
Up to one-third of heating and cooling costs can be lost through inefficient windows, and many utility customers have older, less efficient single pane windows in their buildings. Once installed, window film may offer year-round savings of about five to 10 percent of the buildings’ total energy bill. New window films block 40-60 percent of all energy being lost through glass in winter and may cut cooling costs by 30 percent.
“Professionally installed energy control window film is a highly effective way to save energy,” said Darrell Smith, executive director of the IWFA. “Windows can allow in less than 25 percent of solar energy with window film installed, versus allowing in 90 percent without it. In addition, for commercial buildings, window film can deliver seven times the energy saving benefits per dollar spent compared with installing replacement windows.”
As utilities and the commissions that oversee them are often interested in reaping the cost benefits of power conservation, encouraging customers to have a professional installation of window film can be a wise suggestion. There may also be Federal, state or local incentive programs for which installed window film may qualify. To view some available tax incentives, visit here.
